AKSHARADEEPAM -EXTENDED ACTIVITIES

To make our Aksharadeepam activities more meaningful , we distributed Balasahitya Kadhagal,comics,Children"s Digests that we collected from our adopted village ,for the kids of GHSLPS Peringottukara , one of the oldest schools of Kerala. To carry out our mission successfully ,we felt it proper to sow the seed of it in the initial years itself.

AKSHARADEEPAM -TURANNAVAYANASALA

Today we conducted the inauguration of our Aksharadeepam open library.We could gather almost 300 books of which we chose the 100 good ones for our open library,For our open library we got a corner in Sree Bodananda Vayansala, Chazhur in our participatory village. For the inauguration we got Smt.Bulkies Banu , the famous poetess and a social activist. We could organize the function in a superb manner with the co operation of our P O, Principal and the officials of the library. We think we could spread the neverdying light of  knowledge atleast among our volunteers and the audience and in the minds of the people of our locality.

The volunteers visited the old age home on 25/1/2019 and spent much time with the grandmothers.It was a very nice experience. The grandmas sang withe the kids and shared their stories. It was really surprising that the kids mingled so well with them with in a few minutes. They also arranged a delicious feast for them. From 25th onwards we visited the old age home for a whole week as a part of padheyam activity with variety dishes catering to the demands of the inmates.Thus we could complete our 'padheyam' in a very meaningful way,

The NSS volunteers cleaned the sides of the road on the 8/1/2019  on the day of national strike. They cleaned the canal also. It was really a tough work but really a worthy work

The unforgettable NSS Special Camp "NANMAKOODARAM"

It was really amazing. Really an incredible experience ,  infact  many valuable experiences. It was named "Nanmakoodaram" and it really turned out to be a "Castle of Virtues". On 22/12/2018 we reached the camp site GLPS Alappad by 9 am , prepared the camp site. By 10.30 Smt.Jyothi Kanakaraj inaugurated the "Vilambhara Ghoshayathra" along with the ward member Shajitha Sunil.At 2 in the afternoon an Ice breaking session was led  by Shri.I B Shine, P.R.O. City Police. It was a vibrant  interactive session .At 4 pm we hoisted the flag and Smt. Sheela Vijayakumar inaugurated our 7 day Special camp in the presence of the Principal,H M GLPS Alappad, PTA, MPTA , OSA members etc.On every evenings we organized cultural fest. It was really a treat for our eyes and ears. Every one of the volunteers broke out of their inhibitions and reigned the stage.Fantastic performances by the volunteers.On 23 rd we began with the morning walk acquainting us with the village.In the morning we started off with Haritham and the volunteers prepared the land for vegetable garden in 25 houses. We also collected books for the open library.

In the afternoon we had a very useful session "Haritabhamaya Koumaram" led by Smt. Jyothi V.B, Child counsellor, PASS Academy.Later we also cleaned out a space at the camp site for vegetable garden.From 24 th our days started with Meditation and Exercise led by Renshi Eswaran. Then we moved on to plant Tomato, Brinjal and Green Chilly saplings in those houses.Then also visited "pullu" village devastated by  the recent floods, to extend a helping hand. In the afternoon we had the most excellent session NEURO LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING which was led by the vibrant and dashing person Shri.Suraj p. Satheesh. He really captured our minds and left a huge impact on us. 25th was the most beautiful and eventful day in our camp life. On the Christmas Day we cleaned Alappad Govenment Hospital and the surroundings and celebrated X'mas with the inmates.We also hung a beautiful hanging flower pot made out of plastic bottles we gathered from the premises.In the afternoon we had a dynamic session on Drama and Folk Art led by Adv. V.D. Prem Prasad, Executive Member, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy. He took us by surprise with his way of narration and performances of his artists.On 26th as part of our skill development programme , we visited the Bio- Diversity farm of Smt. Latha Vijayan who is an acclaimed farmer in the locality. She taught us in detail about the invisible and unbreakable link of humans with his soil and nature. We learned the technique of preparing potting mixture and many useful tips about farming. She acquainted us with many medicinal plants. During the afternoon session , we had a class on gender equality and child-friendly laws by Adv.Srutheesh T.S., Dist. Legal Committee. It was quite informative though not very lively. On Thursday 27th of December, we gathered the thrown away plastic bottles and wrappers in connection with our programme "Plastic Free Village". In the afternoon we had a good session on First Aid Training by Acentria Safety Solutions. Then it was the eve of our departure. We were so depressed that our camp was coming to an end. We had a great cultural evening and our final evaluation session. On 28th we  cleaned the campsite, affirmed that it looks more beautiful and tidier than before. The concluding ceremony was conducted at 11 O'clock. Smt.P.C. Sreedevi, Block Panchayath President inaugurated the session.With a whole lot of lively memories we left the camp site by 3pm.All the volunteers has surely imbibed lots of virtues from our  ' Nanmakoodaram' .
